Our First Love

Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ ~ Matthew 22:37-39 Last Sunday our Pastor asked the congregation to spend alone time with Jesus. […]

How Do I Find God?

person standing on brown wooden dock

“How do I find God?” I heard this question the other day and it seemed strange to me. I found it difficult to fathom such a question. My first reaction was that God is not lost; therefore, He does not need to be found. But the more I thought about the question… the more it deserved further consideration.

Godly Living a Choice of the Will

But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve. . .. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD. ~ Joshua 24:15 As Christians, we know that we live in a fallen world, therefore it’s possible to sin. However, we must […]

Nothing Can Stop the Promises of God Almighty

The years, tears, and fears can hold us captive and spar against our dreams—our purposes—the very promises of God. But if God said it. He will bring it to pass, no matter our age, experiences, or environment. Regardless of who believes in us or who doesn’t. Irrespective of who supports us or who works against us. Whether we own a prestigious exclusive credit card or we’re wondering how to pay for our next meal. We can attain God’s promises if we trust Him. For He isn’t a respecter of a person (Romans 2:11)—He always hears Jesus as He intercedes on our behalf (John 11:42).

The Sword of the Spirit

As Christians, we should not go days, weeks, months, or even years without reading the word of God—the Bible. For the word of God is the sword of the Spirit! The Word is what we use to defend ourselves during the attacks of the enemy. When we spend time in the Word, we can say, “It is written”! Because we know what is written. We know the promises of God. We are in fellowship with Jesus Christ. We are not deceived by the enemy. We do not lose hope in suffering, quit during setbacks, or faint in a struggle. We declare—we shall live and not die, victory is ours, the battle is already won—for it is written.

Ordinary Moments of Grace

There are moments when God grants us a miracle. A drug addict who overcomes the addiction and gives his life to Christ—a devastating traffic crash where everyone walks away—an unexplained sudden healing that baffles medical doctors. In times like these, we boldly acknowledge that God is mindful of us.

God is continuously mindful of us—always present—granting us ordinary moments of grace. Such as, an unexpected encouraging phone call from an old friend when we feel overwhelmed and discouraged. The gift of a 40% off coupon from a stranger standing in line behind us, as we silently pray for enough money to cover our purchase. Maybe the moment of grace is an unexpected refund check in the mail. Or a ‘thank you note’ from your supervisor on a day when you feel like quitting. These are moments, we often dismiss without a second thought.

Light of the World

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. ~Matthew 5:16 At first, I thought that I was supposed to write about “evil begets evil”. Feel the Love of God

Only Words…

Words fascinate me. They are immortal—unforgettable. Scripture speaks of the power of words—Proverbs 18:21, John 1:1, Matthew 12:36—to name a few. And while a picture is worth a thousand words… it’s words that we use to describe a Picasso… Renoir masterpiece… or a magnificent sunrise. Even our universal language—music—has an alphabet!

Daunting Options that Led to Courage

Growing up in Greene County, Alabama, I learned early on that the concept of pro-Black didn’t mean anti-White or anti any race or culture. It meant having a mind to promote a people who struggled to overcome—a people—who still struggles to overcome injustices. Oftentimes, the idea is misrepresented because of a lack in understanding the […]

Don’t Worry—God’s Got This

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. ~ Matthew 6:24 I’d been trying to grasp the unsettling idea for months. A faint, vague notion floating in and […]
